Are there any natural or herbal remedies for decreased libido in men that are safe to use?
My husband is 38 years old. He takes Lexapro and Lamictal for a mood disorder and depression. He has decreased libido and low serum testosterone levels. He has taken Androgel in the past but is interested in other treatment options. Are there any herbal supplements or natual remedies that are safe to use? Does anyone out there have any first-hand experience with any of them?

Herbal Anxiety Remedies – They Really Work
The herbal industry has been the focus of a recent study conducted for the nutrition journal. this time with a focus on natural relief from stress and anxiety problems With the ever increasing popularity of alternative medicine especially that of herbal remedies. It would appear that scientist are starting to take herbs more seriously in the treatment of many ailments, in this case, that of herbal anxiety remedies.
Herbal Anxiety Remedies The Test
The report is the result of 21 randomized studies of different herbal anxiety remedies and involved 2619 participants. All of who had an anxiety problems or depression of some kind. Also included in the subjects were people who were experiencing normal levels of anxiety or stress, along with some people who are going to undergo surgery or experiencing insomnia of varying levels.
Surprising results for users of herbal anxiety supplements.
Some people who are currently using Herbal anxiety remedies might be in for some surprises. First of all if you are already using herbs for anything I’m sure you wont be too shocked, but the 21 studies showed that 71% of cases showed positive improvement. This is a massive boost for the herbal medicine industry.
The shock for me was that some of the remedies that I have used with great effect in the past came out quite badly in the trials. And that is St John’s Wort. The article concludes, “St. John’s wort monotherapy has insufficient evidence for use as an effective anxiolytic treatment”. Previous to this it was always that herb I though would get medical approval first. After all in some countries it is already prescribed for mild depression especially for children and teenagers where it is inappropriate to prescribe anti-depressants
What Herbal Cures Came Out Tops?
The article states that strong evidence exist that herbal anxiety remedies containing extracts of passionflower or kava and combinations of L-lysine and L-arginine as treatments for anxiety symptoms and disorders. Magnesium-containing supplements and other herbal combinations may hold promise but as always more studies are necessary before being able to prescribe the herbs for outpatients.
What now for herbal anxiety remedies?
Although this is really good news for natural anxiety supplements in the whole, we are still a long time of being able to go to the doctor and them being able to prescribe us a course of passionflower.
So we have to still rely on our normal sources for herbal remedies. Either your health food shop or your local herbalist.
But at least you can feel a little reassurance that your not just wasting your hard earned money on these tablets that you take every day. The herbs are most definitely helping you and it not just a “Placebo effect”.
Taking herbal anxiety remedies is just starting, to show the world how it can provide long lasting relief from stress and anxiety
