What are the medicines available for labor to reduce pain?

Hi All,

What are all medicines available which a woman can take during labor to reduce the pain? And can you please explain the effects, side effects and pros/cons for each?
I am 36 weeks with my first one.

If you are asking about over-the-counter medicines, don’t take anything!
Once you go to the hospital, your doctor will order something for you.
If you take even an aspirin before the hospital, they might not give you anything later when you really need it.
Plus, some medicines have been known to delay or stop the labor processing for a few hours and possible days.
Doctors even wait until your process has advanced to certain stages of labor to avoid stopping the contractions.
Nothing worst than knowing you are about to have your baby then it all stops because of a pain med; I went thru this 2 times and refused all pain meds the 3rd time (all in 5 days). I wanted to hold my son.
